化蛇, SNAKED
‘化蛇’
— 塞尼亚·德拉尼什

Snaked is a video art project born from an intense confrontation with fear and a looming sense of change in 2019. Using the snake as a potent metaphor for deeply personal and primal terror, I embarked on a journey of exploration. My aim was to become one with my fear, to embody it on both physical and emotional planes, to strip myself bare before it – in both a literal and figurative sense – and to embrace its inescapable nature, ultimately merging with it completely. To facilitate this, I created a three-meter tail, which became my companion in the Dahab desert, as I sought to capture this transformative process.

Isolated in the vast desert landscape, I dissolved into my surroundings and into the wellspring of my emotions, bracing myself for the impending upheaval. Knowing that my life would be irrevocably altered upon my return, I felt compelled to preserve this fleeting moment. "Snaked" proved to be both a premonition and a prophecy – following the filming, my life was indeed reshaped in profound ways; hidden truths were brought to light, ushering in an era of both pain and profound transformation. Like a serpent shedding its skin, I stepped into a new existence, forever leaving the vestiges of the past behind.

Artist Introduction
Xenia Dranysh

Born on 1989 in Moscow

I am a multidisciplinary artist with many years of experience, working across various media, including graphic arts, painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography, video art, textiles, and installations. I also occasionally create my own designer collections of clothing and accessories, tableware, forge collaborations with brands, and write texts.

Above all, my art is a means of exploring myself and my inner states. My works are a dialogue between the visible and the invisible, the physical world and the sphere of feelings, personal experiences and universal human questions. I investigate the fragility and mutability of human identity, and I am interested in how our "self" is shaped by our environment, experiences, and memories.

I find most of the imagery in my artwork within my dreams, visions from meditation, and therapeutic hypnosis sessions.
I love vibrant colors, wordplay, ambiguity, the combination of beauty and absurdity, spirituality, and punk. I am inspired by people and songs, contrasts, feelings, philosophy, religions and diverse cultures, conspiracy theories, fashion, theatricality, and singing.
