‘黑色笔记No.4’
— 郑江

The materials used in this series of works include tuff stone powder and ink. Tuff is a natural mineral rock formed by volcanic eruptions during the Cretaceous period, originating from the artist’s hometown. The marks created by scraping a specially made metal tool across the black surface are derived from the traces left by the artist’s forebears as they carved caves into the mountains—a testament to their labor. Ink, similarly, serves as a special marking material employed in this stone-carving work. In this series, Zheng Jiang attempts to integrate the essence of painting with regional and cultural contexts, embedding a measured emotional tone beneath the surface of abstract forms.
