She taught me silence
Ceramic vessels bearing family time and memories present a quiet narrative. Between the objects and the gaze flows an untold story. The relationship among the vessels reflects the simple, primal bond of emotion between mother and daughter. Ceramic ware with an Eastern quality symbolizes fragility, permanence, and the passage of time, as well as the inheritance of memory—evoking the slowness, growth, nurturing, and shaping within a mother-daughter relationship, revealing an Eastern aura of mystery, sediment, and subtlety.
Meng Yangyang was born in Chongqing, China in 1983. She received her bachelor's degree in oil painting from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2006 and her master's degree in the same field from the same institution in 2009. She currently lives and works in Shanghai. Throughout her career, Meng Yangyang has been dedicated to oil painting, using vigorous brushstrokes and unique color language to explore and express the complex and rich psychological and spiritual spaces of human beings. In recent years, driven by her passion for traditional Eastern culture, aesthetics, religion, and philosophy, she has challenged the conventional rules and visual experiences of painting, breaking through the boundaries between painting and non-painting, and forging a new path to create her own unique series of mixed media paintings. These two lines of exploration run in parallel, simultaneously delving into the issues of the tangible material world and the intangible spiritual world related to existence. Since 2006, her works have been exhibited in numerous renowned galleries, institutions, and art fairs both at home and abroad, including the Chengdu Biennale and the Shanghai Biennale. In recent years, her works have been showcased in important museums such as the National Art Museum of China, the MART Museum of Contemporary Art in Italy, the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art, and the UCCA Dashaiguan Art Museum.
