Yang Wei

Yang Wei was born in November 1984 in Shenyang and graduated from the Sculpture Department of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. He is currently based in Beijing. His artistic practice spans across multiple media, including installation, sculpture, sound, and painting. Much of his work is motivated by reflections on real-life situations and historical memory. Beneath the aesthetic surface he constructs lies a subtle poetic sensibility, distilled from personal experience and literature. Through an exploration of material and discourse, Yang Wei builds narrative scenarios that present viewers with a disquieting and illusory reality—serving as a metaphor for the wildness of the world we inhabit and the ultimate fate of the individual.
