BOUNDED SPACE is honored to announce Liu Chengrui’s latest solo exhibition, REMAINDER (Shèng Tú ) , opening on December 24. On the same day, the artist will start a continuous 21 days performance.
REMAINDER refers both to the mathematical concept of “remainder” and to the existential notion of “the leftover ones.” The character 剩 (shèng) points to what remains, what is preserved and unconsumed, while also suggesting a state of solitude. The character 徒 (tú) denotes a walker or practitioner, yet simultaneously conveys a sense of emptiness and futility. It is also a homophone for 途 (path), implying an unfinished journey.
As a microcosmic symbol and demonstration of social and artistic ecosystems, REMAINDER seeks to reflect the immensely complex and paradoxical network of relationships among art, capital, and reality.

Now with consumption environment is nothing feeling as a starting point for creation. From the initial depiction of the character "zhi", it points to the suspended state of existence itself. Then, in the "Gambling on Stones" series, the dynamic forms of nothingness are discussed. The purpose is to illustrate how modern people fill the void of time with accidental stimuli, only to find a deeper emptiness after the stimulation. At the current stage, we are examining the emergence of a sense of nothingness after the industrial age from multiple perspectives.
