The works in this exhibition grow and extend along the formal clue of a single tree or a single branch. These works are a shaping of the sense of life inherent in things. In the process of making, the artist goes from the surface to the core, dissecting the skin and flesh to reveal the bones. The form of the work begins with observation, then extends to touch, to perception, to the epidermis, and further to the very bone and the very flesh. Here, 'bone' refers to a naturally formed structure—the morphological relationships of mutual surpassing and mutual avoidance that branches develop as they grow, striving for living space.
Kang Jing, born in Shandong, graduated from Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts with a bachelor'sdegree and from the Central Academy of Fine Arts with a master's degree. He currently lives in Beijing.
