IMG492-Red Horn
The image of the work draws inspiration from the ancient murals of the Mississippian culture in Missouri, USA (dating from 800 to 1000 AD). The human figures are drawn with charcoal, wearing headdresses made of arrows or radial lines, and having white masks with pointed noses. The stone hands hold the heads covered with lush white feathers, the left hand holds a bow, and a dead deer lies at their feet. All these features remind one of the supernatural hero of the Sioux tribe - "Redhorn". The background is a combination of abstract electronic experimental images, bridging the link between primitive and modern images and cultures.

Artist's Statement:
Leayoung's practice encompasses multiple media including photography, digital output, and easel painting. The "pointillist" approach in his work is a digital translation of images. Through the analysis and rendering of atmosphere, specific information is blurred. In fact, it is through "scenery, objects, and people" that he conveys the mental state and emotions of contemporary people. This visual "distance" reflects the isolation of individual emotions.
